Hôtel de Crillon

A Rosewood Hotel, Paris

The interior renovation of Hôtel de Crillon is infused with creativity and inspiration. Embracing the heritage and the legacy of French patrimony, soulful designs bridge past and future, 18th and 21st century living, for a unique guest experience of French ‘art de vivre’ today.

Culture, sophistication, celebration and pleasure are present in every detail. Seamless clean lines and handcrafted noble materials dialog with ornaments and moldings, setting the stage for timeless elegance with an edge. Spaces are tailored to every need and fantasy with strong narrative decors evoking the world’s sought-after Parisian lifestyle.

I was the artistic director for the entire decoration project, writing the storyline and the design statement, directing the renovation works both with the executive architect patrimonial architect and a pool of gathered designers. Throughout the 5 years, I directed and inspired the design team, whilst also ensuring that there was a coherence to the designs and making sure that all the original concepts unfolded smoothly. Culture in Architecture, my design studio was in charge of designing the exceptional suites and historical salons. The spaces we imagined were highlighted with awards and placed Hôtel de Crillon as one of the most celebrated and winning hospitality projects with founding decors including the Marie-Antoinette suite and Historical salon, the Duc de Crillon suite and the Garden suites, along with the decoration of the patrimonial salons, a haven for events, in which the designs bridge 18th and 21st century living.

I was incredibly lucky to be able to invite Karl Lagerfeld to design, in his own words, two ‘great apartments,’ and a room named after his Birman cat Choupette. I knew about Karl’s love of 18th century and his immense knowledge about historical decors. Karl at the time was the most thought after designer. I simply wrote him a manuscript letter which arrived to his desk. Karl loved this gesture and called me the day after, we never departed during 9 years filled with creativity and an unprecedented collaboration that forever marks my architect’s journey with gratitude.
