Love, Women, and the Sea
Design Parade Toulon, 2023
Aline Asmar d’Amman chaired the Villa Noailles’ jury for the Design Parade Toulon in 2023 and designed the scenography of her Carte Blanche exhibition « Love, Women, and the Sea. », at villa Noailles, Design Parade.
“Love, Women, and the Sea” is a poetic odyssey envisioned by Aline Asmar d’Amman—a scenographic reverie where literature, memory, and materiality entwine. Inspired by the sensual force of the Mediterranean and the inner landscapes of the feminine, the space unfolds like an open book, each alcove a chapter steeped in emotion and meaning.
At the heart of the exhibition, sculptural furnishings made of “literary concrete” encase cherished books, transforming them into monuments of memory. Throughout, words are stitched, cast, or suspended—echoes of texts embroidered by Lesage or engraved in plaster crafted by Lemarié and Lognon—conveying culture as sanctuary and language as architecture.
From luminous ceilings recalling folded pages to mirrored walls inviting introspection, the journey moves fluidly between softness and strength, shadow and brilliance. A dreamlike “writing room” pays tribute to female authors, while the Mobile des Métiers, a celestial dreamcatcher of Métiers d’art creations, honors the mystery of inspiration and sleepless creation.
Crafted in collaboration with CHANEL’s Fashion Métiers d’art, 19M, artisans, and ‘Entreprises du Patrimoine Vivant’ partners, the scenography and furniture exclusively designed by Aline Asmar d’Amman for this exhibition is a highlight of the 7th International Festival of Interior Architecture, Design Parade Toulon, coinciding with the centenary of villa Noailles. They pay homage to the free-spiritedness of the greatest patrons of the 20th century and suggest the evocative power of Mediterranean interiors, akin to the liquid continent that brings together myths and diversity, while fostering fertile connections between the shores of the world.
