Les Grands Appartements

Collaboration with Karl Lagerfeld, Hôtel de Crillon, A Rosewood Hotel, Paris

I was incredibly fortunate to collaborate with Karl Lagerfeld on the design of “Les Grands Appartements” , exceptional suites overlooking Place de la Concorde, along with a room named after his beloved Birman cat, Choupette. I knew about Karl’s love of 18th century and his immense knowledge about historical decors. Les Grands Appartements are a testimony to his enduring legacy and his unique ability to transcend the past into timeless elegance and the epitome of Parisian chic.

In these Grands Appartements, we reimagined the decorative codes of the Enlightenment era with elegance and precision—boiseries, Savonnerie-inspired rugs, patinated furniture, rare textiles, and bespoke pieces crafted by master artisans. Every detail reflects a delicate balance between historical reverence and modern flair.
Blending memory and modernity, the spaces feature hand-painted ceilings, sleek stainless steel libraries hiding secret dressing rooms, crystal rock tables, and rugs woven from wool, silk, and hammered metal. The bathrooms, clad in Arabescato Fantastico marble, echo Karl’s belief that “the antique is true modernity.”

With meticulous staging, banquettes facing Place de la Concorde, period writing desks, silk taffeta drapes reminiscent of haute couture, and his own photographs of Paris and Versailles, Karl Lagerfeld created a world both grand and personal, rooted with historical knowledge yet tinted with newness. A manifestation of decades of knowledge and a singular expression of his art.
A luminous chapter at Rosewood Hôtel de Crillon, where the 18th century reinterpreted with flair, remains the leading character.
